Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology Students Explore Chinese Traditional Dyeing Heritage at Baide Textile

Combining Academic Research, Intangible Cultural Heritage and Modern Textile Innovation

Moganshan, Zhejiang, China — Baide Textile recently welcomed more than 30 students from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology for a one-week learning and practice program focused on Chinese intangible cultural heritage plant dyeing.

During their visit to Baide Fashion Industry Park, students explored Baide’s plant dyeing exhibition space and learned about traditional Chinese textile techniques from intangible cultural heritage inheritor Song Li.

One of the most impressive exhibits was a large-scale wax-dyed artwork inspired by the famous Chinese painting “Eighty-Seven Immortals Scroll (八十七神仙卷)”.

The artwork stretches over 30 meters and demonstrates the extraordinary artistic possibilities of traditional wax-resist dyeing.

Students studied the Four Traditional Chinese Dyeing Techniques:

  • Wax-resist dyeing (蜡缬)

  • Tie-dye (绞缬)

  • Clamp-resist dyeing (夹缬)

  • Grey-resist dyeing (灰缬)

Through hands-on learning, students experienced how traditional craftsmanship transforms fabric into artistic expression.

Baide Textile combines heritage craftsmanship with modern textile manufacturing, focusing on the research and development of environmentally friendly plant-dyed fabrics.

The company aims to:

  • Preserve traditional textile techniques

  • Develop sustainable fabric solutions

  • Expand the application of heritage textiles

  • Connect Chinese craftsmanship with global fashion markets

By collaborating with universities, designers, and creative communities, Baide Textile promotes a new model of intangible cultural heritage preservation:

Keeping tradition alive through innovation.
